Description
Fructooligosaccarides (FOS) are plant sugars that pass undigested through the small intestine. FOS has prebiotic activity, selectively promoting the growth of friendly bacteria in the gut, including lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. While probiotic add beneficial microflora, prebiotics affect the intestinal environment so that beneficial colonies of microflora can flourish. By aiding the beneficial microflora’s survival, pathogenic microflora can have a decreased chance of survival.
